The Village

St Mawes is situated at the end of the beautiful Roseland Peninsular, across the bay from Falmouth. It’s perfectly possible to spend a whole week just watching the world go by thanks to the stunning coastal and harbour views that Gull Cottage enjoys.

St Mawes is a bustling seaside village with a range of well-stocked food shops. In addition there is a pharmacy and several gift shops, boutiques and art galleries. Within the village there is a wide range of places to eat in or grab a takeaway from.

There are three small but sandy beaches in the heart of St Mawes. For those who want to get onto the water, there is a wide choice of watersports, boating trips as well as wild swimming .

A short walk through the village up to the Castle, rewards you with a fabulous view across to Falmouth. A more extended waterside walk leads to St Just in Roseland with its beautiful church described by John Betjeman as “ to many people the most beautiful churchyard on earth”. The village is a great base for a walking holiday, especially along the famous South West Coast path

The St Mawes passenger ferry operates 364 days a year between Falmouth and St Mawes. In the summer months, a small passenger ferry operates between Place and St Mawes quay. It is popular with walkers and those wanting to reach the beaches on the other side of St Anthony Head.
